Archaic Signs

Boxes and objects bringing together glyphs, petroglyphs, and votive offerings gathered by the artist on her research trips through original American cultures, from the Anasazi to the Mapuche. A late-1990s period, the most spiritual stage of her production.

Enigmas of Memory

A series of paintings and object installations presented at the Centro Cultural Borges (Buenos Aires, 2005) and at the Javits Convention Center in New York (2007), exploring the genetic traces and arcane origins of memory.

Myths and Rites

The Kuruzú Jeguá — the "ornamented cross" of Paraguay — and other Guaraní and mestizo ritual celebrations, at the heart of the artist's exhibition at the Centro Cultural Borges (2001), reviewed by the critic Ticio Escobar.

Fish

The fish as an evolutionary link between water and land, between the cell and man: one of the most recurring figures in Susana Romero's work, present since her earliest international exhibitions.

Snails — Harmoniously in Spiral

The snail and the spiral as a symbol of the universe and of sacred geometry: the artist herself described this series as part of her search to represent "the intangible quality of certain mystical and popular manifestations".

People on the Road

A series reflecting Susana's view of the people around her, inspired by real situations she observed. Work from the mid-1990s.

Recent Work

The artist's most recent work, where color and gesture gain freedom and where painting on canvas coexists with handmade papers, intervened photographs, and objects.
